Melasma
Melasma is a skin condition characterised by patches of dark discoloration, typically appearing on the face.
This can typically be caused by factors such as genetics, pregnancy, and certain medications.
While aging skin naturally undergoes changes, melasma adds an unwanted layer to the process, causing uneven pigmentation and splotchy appearance.
To combat the effects of melasma, we offer a tailored approach with compounded creams containing prescription-only active ingredients proven to reduce the appearance of melasma and prevent further darkening. To treat melasma, we’ll often use the following:
Niacinamide: Hyperpigmentation occurs due to excess melanin beneath the skin, niacinamide helps to break down this melanin and prevent new deposits from forming
Hydroquinone: A compound which directly inhibits melanocytes, the cells which cause pigment production.
Azaelic Acid: A tyrosinase inhibitor, this works to directly inhibit melanin production
Tranexamic Acid: Works by interfering with melanocyte production, it is particularly effective for UV-induced hyperpigmentation.
